woahwoahwoah what brings you to NL?

Oh thanks! I’m not an expert by any definition, and I’m still learning, but one of the ways I deepen and affirm my understanding of a thing is to share that thing with others.

The beans came out almost exactly the way I wanted. They should express flavors that are soft and gentle, like tea biscuits, honey, and a very light cacao nib finish. I realize that all of that sounds like a bunch of pretentious bullshit, but I’ve cupped enough coffee to know that sometimes beans are given really overwrought descriptions that are very accurate, from “lemon zest” to “chocolate covered almonds”. 

Knowing what the grower gets out of the beans gives me something to aim for, as well, so it was kind of a big deal to me this morning when I got a cup that had a lovely, gentle, biscuit flavor with a hint of raw honey.

The thing about beans is that they tend to reach the peak of their flavor complexity between three and five days after they are roasted. I guess it has something to do with the nitrogen inside of them coming out (it’s called “offgassing” which is a term I love) so if they are this satisfying now, I can’t wait to taste a cup on Monday morning.

There was a time when it was easy. Easy to be what they were meant to be. Easy to listen to the words and doctrines of another and adopt them with a whole heart. 

Choices were made out of loyalty and tradition more than examination and self-awareness. What it was to be a good southern gentleman overrode any creeping doubts they may have had. 

Be a good Christian and spread His word. Be a good student and get an engineering degree. Be a good son, find the right girl, and settle down. 

But somewhere along the way, their truth began to shine through. Curiosity turned to questions, and those questions would no longer go unanswered or ignored.

1.  What was the first fic you remember reading?

oh, man. i’m awful at this. i’m sure it was something by isra? because when i enter a fandom i automatically go to ao3 and search by kudos. and i’m really bad at reading serial fics? so like, porny oneshots are my jam. especially when i’m new and don’t know the fandom that well yet. 

12. What makes you click on a fic?

i just answered this for sarah, and it got a bit winded so i won’t do that again. but basically, like good tags, good description. gotta have them kinks in order and gotta sell that fic to me fam make me wanna read your stuff

I.  What fic or author, if any, inspired you to start writing fanfic?

oh, gosh. i’ve been writing since i was??? 12?? and the first fandom i wrote for was the criss angel fandom? and it was all garbage and ridiculous of course. but for this fandom it was really just like the fandom as a whole. i hadn’t written in a while and i was like “hm yes let’s do this”
