I’m not an expert by any means but don’t wild bettas have huge territories? maybe try to check if his aquarium isn’t too small

admittedly he is in only a 2gallon bowl (7.5ish liters) so while I really would like to get him a bigger aquarium I’m not sure I have the resources for him at the moment. Up until literally a month ago tho he was in only a 1gal/3.8L bowl for all his (that I know of) little fishy life and was happy as a clam. So I’m not totally sure it’s a space issue
