I was gonna make a joke about Mitch McConnell (and if they sort of thing offends you go ahead and smash that unfollow button) but then I realized that turtles are very fine people who stay out of politics like I wish Mitch would and I didn't really want to besmirch them just because some scumbag politician looks like a reptile. . It is a very dangerous time of year for turtles as they're often having to cross roads as they attend to their various turtle dealings and business. When I saw this one it was just about finished crossing, but I nominated and appointed myself turtle crossing guard and watched until it was safely in the tall grass on the other side of the road. . Anyway, I know turtles are pretty common around here, but I've only ever seen turtles in the wild a few times so it was fun for me. Like a month ago, I was watching them in a pond as it was unfreezing but they'd only poke their heads out. . Fun turtle fact: these guys will actually freeze solid during winter and have special turtle insides that can survive freezing and thawing, humans obviously can't do that. Except once, which might bi just urban legend, a guy tried to escape his country by hiding in the landing gear of a plane, froze solid, and survived. For some reason, I spent a lot of time reading research about progress toward successfully freezing and thawing humans. Probably after watching futurama or something. I'd happily get frozen and wake up in 1000 years. . The closest I have come is getting hypothermia in an icy lake so I could get rescued in a first responders class. I think I understand/remember that getting a human really cold isn't the big challenge. We can withstand that, the challenge is thawing people without them turning to mush. But I guess also as the water in your body expands as it turns to ice, it probably doesn't do all your organs and veins any favors. Turtles do it just fine though. In summary, maybe we should put Mitch on ice. For science.
