Shake it Paint Jam - Arthouse Project
I thought I would take a few moments to tell you all about the paint jam that took place over the last weekend to mark the end of the Art House Projects ‘Shake It‘ exhibition.
We were blessed with the sunniest and warmest of days, and the best day of the year so far ( note that it did snow a few days later! ). It was the first weekend of April and in total we were a whopping 18 artists that came together to paint at one of London’s graffiti hotspots: Allen Gardens.
The exhibition featured works created with old spray cans and was also hosted online.
This event was also more than just an excuse to get out and paint. It was an opportunity to celebrate the Art House Projects’ very own founder, Apparan. Turns out a birthday pain jam was the perfect way to celebrate the exhibitions closure and the birthday of the founder herself. And later in the day we all got to sing happy birthday, eat vegan cake, and have a little dance off.
Allen Gardens is a popular spot and great for spotting street art. It’s a constant flow of images as each week new pieces cover up the last, a revolving door of expressionism. From glorious images of surrealism to protest pieces to winged spray cans... there was something for everyone.
I worked on a new piece called ‘Rainbow Eyes’ combining the rainbow theme with the way we look at the world and how we treat it and each other.
The piece had a bumpy start, as the paint I used for the background was reacting with my sprays, making it difficult to dry. I worked around the tackiness of the spray and had to be extra careful when I taped the stencils down. Patience and precision prevailed, and the piece came out like a dream.
I was especially happy to be working alongside my friend, 7th Pencil as we had gotten to know each other over the lockdown year but had yet to meet in person. She turned out to be great (I knew she would be a good’un’!) and we laughed all throughout the day.
I also got to meet so many other wonderful artists that day and with the sun out, the music playing it was a truly awesome day.
Can’t wait for the next gathering of the crew…

Paint Jam in Penge sets off the 2018 street art year in London
As has become now a bit of a tradition, our pals at London Calling once again organised a street art paint jam to celebrate not only the new year but also the anniversary of starting their excellent blog, now a mighty three years old. Prior locations have seen jams on Blackall Street in Shoreditch and in an abandoned office block in Soho. This time however the jam moved a bit further south into…

Street Artists take over abandoned office block in Soho
For the second time this year our friends at London Calling took over an abandoned office block in the centre of Soho and opened up its walls to artists to do with what they will in an event called ‘Gimmie Shelter’. We covered the first event back in January and saw some pretty good art. The office block in question is sometimes given over for exhibitions and the walls of the space are a pretty…

Street artists get together to launch 2017 with a paint jam somewhere in Soho
It’s not the most well known place on the street art scene. In fact Soho has never really broken through as a must see stop on the street art map, there are too many other distractions. Despite all this however, it was here where 2017’s street art scene really kicked off, in the centre of Soho itself. Admittedly the venue wasn’t open to the public. In fact we were under instructions not to…
