ALBUMS OF THE WEEK: Here are the nine albums that got the most plays from me this week. The clear winner this time was Véhémence - Par le Sang Versé. This is medieval-themed melodic black metal from France. There's an Mgła vibe here, with the guitar and drums especially pummeling in a cool contrast with the folksy elements. I listened to this a zillion times and will likely keep this on rotation for awhile. I also have two great Houston-based bands on the list: Sleeping Ancient and Paingiver. Sleeping Ancient plays atmospheric black metal and their album, There Is No Truth But Death, is an excellent representative of the genre. Paingiver plays filthy old school death metal along the lines of bands like Witch Vomit. Check out their great new 4-track EP, Deorum Mortis.
