Two social housing buildings sit in a plot inside an eco-neighborhood inat the outskirts of Lausanne, with direct view to the lake. The project gives a new reading to the urban plan by creating a soft landmark in its entrance. Two similar square-plan blocks, rotated to suit the topography and maximize the views to the lake, are counterpointed by a smaller volume to define a kind of gate-house.
The buildings create a courtyard with privacy and daylight to maximize the living standards of the apartments. The envelope is done with a vertically scalloped rendered facade, defined by a series of concrete string courses. Within this frame, specific openings address local conditions creating a cohesive but differentiated architectural language with a high energetic performance.
The apartments are configured to emphasize movement along the facade with enclosed central elements to create natural divisions between activities and spaces. Flexibility is maintained through the careful disposition of rooms to allow multiple means of occupation.
