what's up, garden?

5/12: Flowers in my local P-Patch that are also found in my mother’s garden back in Idaho. Happy Mother’s Day, to my mom and to all the good moms out there doing their best.

I was introduced to Solarpunk a little over a year now.  I fell in love with it because of all it stands for, that is inclusion, diversity, nature, beautiful architecture, and environmental awareness.  Punk, as I've come to understand it, is to rage against the status quo and "fight" for the values that you hold close, as well as any system that seeks to favor oppression and hatred.  Solar, well, I'm sure there's a better explanation elsewhere, but to me the "solar" in Solarpunk speaks to the values of conserving nature, inclusion, diversity, and being stewards of the Earth as best as we possibly can be.  We can all take small steps to get there, if we have the opportunity to, but no single person can do it on their own.  My hope for the future is a healthier planet that runs on solar, wind, and other renewable energy resources.  I also hope that humanity can learn to live with itself.  It'd be a Utopian dream come true if communities were formed that support each other and take care of each other.  I think I've heard it referred to as "Urban Villages."  Maybe it's not technically a new concept, but I think they are a step in the right direction.  Anyways, thanks for reading this far.  Please enjoy a taste of real Solarpunk, and have a nice day!

Whenever the sky is looking clear and pink, we take a walk to this P-Patch to watch the sunset. It’s been an exciting walk lately seeing all the plants sprouting. Wondering what everyone is growing.

The 43-year-old garden is on private land — the landowner has leased the space for $1 per year to the P-Patch since it started. But now, the landowner is ready to sell, and unless the gardeners can come up with $1.8 million to purchase the half-acre property, the land will be turned into four single-family homes.
