there are ups and downs in working in a bookstore. first is dealing with noisy customers. second, is the book cataloging that she had to do in the end of each week. third, the low pay that barely gets her past each month. but one thing keeps her on her feet, motivating her to stay and not just give up.

books. magical stories that she can escape to whenever she’s bored, stories she can revisit every time for a new experience. it’s weird for such a magical creature to indulge in another’s fantasy, but why not? page through page she goes through in a flash, leaving no room to contemplate deeply about anything until after it’s done. still going sentence by sentence of her freshly picked book, the card lets herself get lost in the world of mysteries and horrors. it is not until a familiar voice knocks her out of her zone and into the real world.

countless days slip past her fingers as the dates approach 30 before zooming back to 1. sunny days, rainy days, the wind blowing hard on her hair and humid air binding her limbs as she runs towards whatever building she wants to go to. it’s a wonderful feeling, but at the same time brings a melancholic tune about her days. she has only so much until graduation day comes and university awaits. she can barely wrap her mind around the fact that she’s almost an adult, only months away from what people would call freedom.

ah, my wallet— seungmi looks back at the door to her classroom, tapping her friend’s shoulder softly as she jogs back to her class. an half an hour break can only do her so much, if she doesn’t hurry the time will run out before she can get anything to eat.

upon entering, she stops on her tracks, hands still on the frame of the door. taking a quick breath, she momentarily stops thinking. “what are you guys doing?” arms falling to her sides, the girl walks towards the desks by the lockers. “what...”

eyes flickering and faces flushed, the group of girls merely smiles at her. “nothing, seungmi-ah. we were just fooling around, right hara?” seungmi’s eyes drift towards the long-haired girl. she seems uncomfortable, as if cowering in her seat. her gaze once again jumps to the other girls. “you guys, go to lunch. we only have twenty minutes left.”
