the day had been relatively peaceful for rose, a considerable effort in part by her cheerful attitude and ability to multitask quite well. positivity was not a necessity for rose, but more of an obligation that she enjoyed. time well spent was time not wasted, in her eyes.
the street was relatively busy, with a slight crowd forming around her. it was midday, a peak during lunch-time when most office and business workers found themselves scouring the city for a particular place to sate their appetite, or perhaps even meet up with friends. she was weaving her way through the crowd, trying not to get hit by the shoulders of passerbys, when suddenly she picked a face out of the crowd that looked oddly familiar.
the stranger (whose face it belonged to) was gone as quick as rose had noticed them, being lost in the people around the two. in every other day, rose would simply shrug and continue on with her business, but she felt a nagging urge to find the person and she was always one to follow her instincts.
slipping her way through the crowd, her eyes scoured the many expressions and details harboring the faces of the people around her, but finally (and just in time too, for she was about to give up) she spotted her target not too far away from her, their face slightly bent away as they looked down at something they were doing. a quick glance around them confirmed that they were with no one else, and she was glad because otherwise she might get weird looks in confronting them.
stepping over to the person, rose could finally see that it was a woman in her 20′s, with seeming long dark brown or black hair. she was bent over doing something so rose couldn’t fully see her face, but it was enough to reach forward and lightly tap them on the shoulder
then a rush of memories flooded through her mind as rose suddenly realized who this woman was and more importantly, why she had followed her. it passed her vision in still images; a girl of the same description, just a little bit younger, handing her a bag of food as she sat crouched in the darkness of a street. rose, trying to fly off the ground in a feeble manner and the same figure standing like a silhouette against an alley light. and finally the stranger whispering, a slight smile on their face as they stared at her terrified figure.
“don’t worry, your secrets safe with me.”
and before rose can decide whether or not confronting the woman was the best choice, specifically because she had seen her other side, she turns around and rose is met with a inquisitive, yet familiar, pair of brown eyes.
