          it  hadn’t  even  been  twenty - four  hours  since  the  bonfire  was  cut  short .      mystic  falls  was  left  stewing  in  the  wake  of  their  most  recent  attack,    especially  due  to  vicki’s  survival .      caroline  couldn’t  begin  to  imagine  what  matt  was  feeling  but  yet                 she  was  a  teenage  girl .      in  the  face  of  tragedy,   she  was  always  bound  to  have  a  problem  deemed  equally  or  moreso  important  to  discuss  to  keep  the  mood  light  over   an  animal  attack .      therefore  the  next  morning  the  blonde  insisted  that  elena  met  her  for  brunch  in  the  town  square .      the  contrast  of  the  bright,   shining  weather  that  had  them  sitting  comfortably  outside  was  almost  mocking .       "  i  feel  like  i  barely  saw  you  last  night .      where  even  were  you ?      please  tell  me  you  have  something  newsworthy  to  share .  ”      she  takes  a  sip  of  her  tea  before  smothering  a  bagel  in  cream  cheese,    eyeing  elena  expectantly .      " i  mean,   other  than  the  obvious .      you  and  this  town  need  something  happy  to  talk  about.      like   .   .   .   oh !      the  comet .      or  even  more  importantly,   the  two  hot  new  guys  i  met  last  night .  ”

          “ so  caroline  stopped  me  earlier  today . ”      jenna  continues  to  stir  at  the  beef  in  the  skillet  before  her,   grease  sizzling  before  popping  out  with  an  abrupt  crack .      wednesdays  had  become  their  unofficial  taco  night  in  the  weeks  following  jenna’s  move  in    ---    one  of  the  few  meals  she’s  confident  she  can  make  without  absolutely  butchering .      “ she  asked  if  we  were  all  going  to  that  summer  festival  thing  starting  tomorrow .      i  don’t  know  about  you,  ”      the  brunette  says  as  she  turns  to  face  elena  at  the  kitchen  island,   gesturing  toward  her  niece  with  the  spatula  as  if  to  underline  her  words,      “ but  i  got  a  sudden  craving  for  a  funnel  cake .      we  should  go !      you  can  see  your  friends  and  maybe  i  can  use  it  to  find  out  who  jeremy’s  been  sneaking  out  at  night  to  see .      win  /  win  for  both  of  us . ”
