are we seriously having a montage about them learning about montages this is delightful
Okay, look.
Glasses isnât proof, but I think a lot of things just slotted into place for me.
Lily as the one that cursed Eda... Iâm not gonna lie, my first reaction was to feel a little betrayed by the narrative, like âoh of course the sister has to be responsible for this tooâ but the more I think about it the more it makes sense and the better it works, because it answers the biggest question I had really well.Â
Curses imply intent. Who could have such a grudge against a child that they would do something so terrible?
The answer is another child.
Eda implied she was really quite young when she was cursed, and it looks like she and Lilith are at most a year or two apart. Lilith, who looks sour and sad in the background of this photo, has probably been building up resentment her whole life. Eda was a delinquent, sure, but sheâs also outgoing and cheerful and clearly has at least one good friend, going by Mysterious Bard there (who, yes, has the same glasses, but weâre two and a half episodes from the end of the season, theyâre not gonna introduce her Old Jilted Bard GF now). All we really know about Lilithâs childhood is that 1) she described herself as coming from âhumble beginningsâ back in Covention, and 2) someone stole her lunch one time and Eda went ballistic food-fight nuts in revenge. Maybe Iâm projecting too much as a floofy-redhead who had round glasses in high school and whose big sister was way more social and successful, but... damn.
I wouldnât have done anything to take my sister down, but that doesnât mean that I canât have sympathy for Lily.
So Lilith gets in deep. I donât know how she figured out how to cast such a nasty curse-- whether it was sneaking around reading books she wasnât supposed to have access to or help from an adult witch (weâve seen pretty strongly today that the teachers arenât really authority figures to be trusted, at Hexside), she does something awful and potentially irreparable at a very young age. What does she do?Â
She ties it up inside herself. She genuinely worries about Eda-- that moment of sorrow for her state at the covention definitely wasnât faked-- and she pushes forward. She wonât blame herself, sheâs too brittle for that; she canât acknowledge sheâs done anything wrong.
So she pushes, pushes, pushes to get Eda to follow her into the Emperorâs Coven, the one way she might be able to right her wrong.
Even if that would deny Eda her freedom.
âOh, please. You know, I used to be like you, Boscha-- obsessed with status, threatening the competition. I grew up. When will you?â
holy shit
I mean I think youâve still got some growing to do Amity but hot damn
