Queen Letizia is the Michelle Obama equivalent in Spain but with a more regal title. Since marrying Prince Felipe in 2004, she’s brought an advanced sense of style to the royal family. Jumpsuits, mini dresses, leather pants, and cheetah prints are all in her closet. So when the 43-year-old visited the United States with her husband and met with the Fist Lady, it came as no surprise that the pair both dressed their best for the occasion.Â
For a tour of the 50-year-old’s organic garden on the grounds of the White House, Queen Letizia wore a black and white shift dress, appropriate for the balmy September day. She paired the piece from designer Felipe Varela with white topaz Links of London Egg earrings. Obama, on the other hand, chose a fit and flare frock in white with a windowpane print. Both were in heels, which most likely sunk in the well manicured grass.Â
Queen Letizia and her husband are currently on a tour of the U.S., with the Obama’s modest home being the first formal stop on their list of activities. Later, they received a private tour of Mount Vernon, President George Washington and Martha’s former residence. They’ll continue on after Washington, DC, to Miami and then St. Augustine, Florida. But before heading out, the the pair attended a party on Tuesday night at Capitol Hill with various legislators.Â

The King, who had spent time with President Obama in the Oval Office while Michelle and the Queen bonded over fruits and vegetables, appropriately wore a navy blue suit with a robin’s egg blue tie with red and white stripes. His wife traded her daytime dress for a more formal look. From Nina Ricci’s Spring 2015 collection, the navy ensemble’s completely covered in sequins and features a Peter Pan collar with a few buttons down the front on the top and the separate skirt’s hemline hit just above the knee.
Sure, the trip’s supposed to be about the heads of state, but their fashionable counterparts stole the show.Â
