So this is pretty much my second big project I’ve built and my first time working with hardwoods. Red Oak, to go with the oak plywood. I’m farely new in the woodworking world. Started about a year ago. Everything I’ve ever built before this, has always been plywood. Purchased from lowes/ homedepot.

When I figured out my next step into woodworking was to use hardwood. Of course I’m buying it at lowes and homedepot. Actually the first half of oak I used for this project was from there.

Then finally I found a local lumberyard that sells hardwood. Smooth on both faces but only 1 straight edge. (Which isn’t an issue at all, as long as you have a table saw. Its just crazy the price difference between the two. A piece of oak H.D. cost me $ 48. When I could've bought the same board lumber yard for $ 18.

I live in Las Vegas, NV. So far this is the only, non big box lumberyard (lowes/ H.D.)) that sells hardwood. (Also only 1 woodworking store In town. A small place called Woodworkers Emporium which is right down the street from petermans, the only lumberyard in town, that I know of.

Please if anyone from Vegas knows anywhere else to purchase hardwood or woodworking store. I’d be glad to hear it.

Anyways the second half of my outfeed table was all purchased from Petermans (that’s my hardwood lumberyard.

All in all, I really liked the way it turned out. There where a lot of firsts (jointery ive never done before) with the project. I’m really happy how it turned out.

I learned after the fact my grain on raised panel doors are going the wrong way. They should be up and down (vertical/ perpendicular) but mine are horizonal. I don’t think it looks that bad tho? Especially for my first ever raised panel doors. Does it to you?

I would appreciate your likes/ dislikes

Of course there is things I wish I would’ve done differently, but I’m still new in all this. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Oh ya, when I was about 90% finished I desided I wanted to add some t tracks on top, to use as a work service to clamp things down. Now I only wish I didn’t use plywood on top and used Formica/ laminate instead. Damn glue keeps sticking to my plywood top. Any advice to glue to easily wipe off would be a life savor! I also added kreg automax clamp on the side with dog hole. Which functions exactly like a vise w/ dog holes.

For many of us, our work area is always changing.  Be it a jobsite, our basement, workshop or an outdoor project, we need a tool that will adapt to our needs and perform well.  Finding a table saw that will work for all of those situations is not always an easy task.  In one of our growing shops, we had the need for a nice, powerful table saw that did not take up a lot of room.  We still wanted a lot of the fine cutting qualities of a larger saw, but we needed them in a smaller package.  While there is always tradeoffs when trying to buy something that will fit into a small space, we feel the Ridgid R4513 table saw fit the bill very well and left us some money in hand to upgrade the blade.  This was important to our growing shop because we need a lot of tools at this point.

Our Shop Build

There was a struggle between trying to build a nice shop now in a small location or wait a few years until a larger location would be available.  No matter the space, starting woodworking was more important than the size of shop or work area. The Ridgid R4513 was not only powerful enough for us with the 15 amp motor running on 120v, it was also smooth.  Smaller saws that are meant for portability can lack some of the quiet and vibration free features we all like, but this saw was very enjoyable to use.  The cut depth and bevel are made simple with cranks and knobs. A simple turn of a center knob tightens down blade height adjustment securely.  The easy fold base with wheels works great and can be stored in mere minutes. In our small shop, we can use it in place or wheel it to the garage for more room.  Cutting power was a pleasant surprise as was the easy blade change and sliding extension table.

For a small table saw, the fence is smooth and robust.  On board storage of tools and accessories is a huge plus to anyone on the move.  Each piece has its place and is safely and securely locked into position making sure it is out of the way and will not get damaged in transport.  Overall, this is a very well thought out, accurate and smooth portable table saw.
