Kuedo – “Mtzpn” (2014)

The English label Hyperdub releases hip, avant-garde dance and electronic tracks. Their recent compilation 10.1 mixed highlights from the label’s past five years with some new releases. “Mtzpn” is one such new release, and happens to be one of the less-weird tracks on the comp. A glassy, cold synth lays a simple melody over slack hip-hop beats; in the chorus, trap hi-hats rain down like hail on a windowpane, quickly shifting in multiples of two.

If you desire some out-there electronic, check out track 12, Heavee’s “Icemaster” in which one of the loops is a guy saying, “I’m cold, motherfucker. Cold motherfucker.” [link to Heavee’s track]
