One more day! Then I get to take this smokin' hot sweet lady on vacation for a whole week! 😄🎉 We've both been working hard and pushing hard in this season of life, so it's exciting to get some time to refresh, recalibrate and relax together! #InspireMeChallenge Day 6 ------------ It can be easy to default to doing things alone. Whether it's because we're used to being busy or we don't necessarily feel "up for it" to spend energy being with other people. There are a lot of reasons why we don't make an effort to be with others, even those we love most sometimes. A new thought I had shared with me yesterday was that we don't spend quality time with someone because we forget how good it is! (This applies to time with God too) It's true: we can reach a point where we forget how great it is to be with other people in our lives (family, friends, meeting new people), and so we stick to our default, what requires the least from us. Kind of like settling for only junk food because you forgot how good real food tasted. What's amazing is that the very thing you need to jump-start love and excitement for something, or somebody, is that thing itself! Remind yourself how good it is by doing it, or how much you care for someone by spending quality time with them! @shannyclats and I could have spent today at home, or taking care of errands, or one of a thousand other things; but instead we jumped on the opportunity to go out with our parents and conquer Beacon Rock, then hang out and eat and watch a really impactful movie! And I knew early on that we had made the right decision and that every single one of us had needed today, not just for the things we were doing, but for the time that we spent together. Go and remind yourself of the love you have for somebody by spending some time with them. #InspireMeChallenge Day 3 ------------ Priorities. It can be pretty tough to stick to these when it seems that everything on your plate is a high priority. Truth is, it's important to discern between what's urgent and what's important. And beyond that, what's MOST important to you. In the past, I've gotten this balance wrong and allowed work to consume more time and energy then it deserved, while those closest to me took the back seat oftentimes. However, I decided to make a change: I made the priorities I talked about, the same ones I LIVED out. I didn't just say that my wife came before work, I made it so she actually did. The confidence that I developed in that season of readjusting has helped me on days like today, when an opportunity came to spend quality time with @shannyclats this afternoon. Even though I had work, I was smart enough to seize the precious moment while it was there. And it was a beautiful afternoon:) There will always be more work. There will always be more money. There won't always be more time. While it's good to hustle, balance that ambition and filter it through what matters most to you. And here's a hint: what matters most is not what's in your email inbox. That's my #InspireMeChallenge for today: Learn the lessons from the past and design a future that is full of moments cherished with the ones you love.
