A delightful twist on the classic Monte Cristo sandwich, this recipe features a layer of tangy cranberry jam adding a burst of flavor to the savory ham and cheese. Perfect for a special brunch or lunch treat!
Ingredients: 8 slices of sturdy white bread. 8 slices of Swiss cheese. 8 slices of deli ham. 4 large eggs. 1/4 cup milk. Salt and pepper to taste. 1/2 cup cranberry jam. Powdered sugar for dusting. Maple syrup for dipping optional.
Instructions: On 4 pieces of bread, spread cranberry jam out evenly. Put two Swiss cheese slices and two deli ham slices on top of each slice. Add the last few slices of bread on top to make sandwiches. Whisk the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper together in a shallow dish. Cover both sides of each sandwich with the egg mixture as you dip them in it. Cook the sandwiches for three to four minutes on each side over medium-low heat, or until they are golden brown and the cheese melts. Before serving, take them out of the pan and sprinkle them with powdered sugar. If you want, you can serve them warm with maple syrup to dip them in.
