Third attempt at the SEOI OTOSHI was the good one from MARTINEZ ABELENDA LAURA in Zagreb... what a quick grip and nice control !
珍しいお通し // UNUSUAL OTOSHI Japanese restaurants have the custom of adding a table charge to your bill, in exchange for which you get a small dish of their choosing, called otoshi. This was a yakitori restaurant (grilled chicken skewers), and they served us grated daikon radish topped with a raw quail egg. Use your chopsticks to swish it all up into a paste and dip your chicken, or it honestly tastes pretty good on its own. Well, I ate both mine and my husband’s so maybe it’s a love-it-or-hate-it deal.
wakaimama cafe x kitchen, cheras.
was here with family for year end dinner, and we tried the omakase course offered by this place since it was highly promoted on social media. the course has total of 7 food items, starting from otoshi (appetizer), sashimi, yakimono (grilled), tempura (fried), nimono (boiled), sushi and dessert.
each course is served quite quickly, and i would say the overall experience was really disappointing because the food taste quite bad. the agedashi tofu as appetizer was soaked in oil and taste really bad, the batter was too thick as well. sashimi was alright, but only 2 different types, which are salmon and scallop. the stuffed grilled saba is pretty alright, and i think it is the best out of all the courses. tempura is again quite oily and batter was really thick and it was served cold. sushi was pretty bad, we were expecting nigiri or gunkan sushi, but got served make instead and the sushi rice is not fragrant at all and pretty much tasteless. sesame ice cream for dessert tasted really weird and way too sweet.
for omakase meal, the food presentation is just alright, and because the food taste bad or below average, it spoils the mood. service at the restaurant is also quite bad as all the staff are just chatting and waiting at the counter instead of actively checking on customers or refilling our tea.
i wouldn’t visit the place again, as this could be labeled as one of the worst japanese meal i have eaten and it was quite pricey as well, with such poor service and disappointing experience.

クルクルパスタのお通し // Tuna Fusilli Otoshi Japanese restaurants have the custom of adding a table charge to your bill, in exchange for which you get a small dish of their choosing. You won’t always like it, but it’s rarely more than a few bites. This was a pretty decent one, fusilli in a tomato sauce with canned tuna, served cold. Otoshi comes out with your first drink, so you have something to eat while waiting for your food to arrive. While some restaurants only serve otoshi to customers who order alcohol, it’s generally simpler to serve it to everyone who sits down at dinnertime (especially considering that most izakaya will expect you to order one drink right away, alcoholic or no).
お通しのツナパスタサラダ // Tuna Macaroni Salad Otoshi Japanese restaurants have the custom of adding a table charge to your bill, in exchange for which you get a small dish of their choosing. You won’t always like it, but it’s rarely more than a few bites. Mayo-based things are pretty common, and where there’s canned tuna, you know there’s gonna be corn. Japan loves tuna and corn together.
