Day 7 for the 30 Day Film Challenge: a film that you will never get tired of.
There are a lot of films I feel I will never get tired of, but one that I can truly watch over and over again is Memento. It’s a rare film that holds up after the first viewing, even when you know all the twists. I started rewatching it to get a better sense of the plot, but now, if I want to just lose myself for a few hours this is the movie I’m more likely to go to.
One of the many things that makes Memento a good film is that the credits last the duration of a single song, and it’s a David Bowie song to boot.Â
Also, I realized something I’d never thought of before when watching it tonight:
Two disconnected thoughts because I love consolidating posts like that
1. You ever watch a movie or something that someone you know really likes, and when you watch it you suddenly realize where a lot of their personality comes from? And you suddenly understand why they like it?
2. It’s weird but when I think about Memento, I think about the plot taking place from beginning to end, instead of end-to-beginning. It actually jars me watching the movie and seeing everything happen in reverse order, like my mind can’t make sense of it that way and has to re-order it.

So today I found out a classmate/fellow songwriter has also written a song about Memento, just like me. Now I want to do a collaborative concept album.
Random thought that just popped up in my head: god, I bet Leonard Shelby in Memento would have gotten a lot more done and understood what was going on more if he’d carried around a tape recorder instead of having to stop and write himself notes in order to remember things
Rewatching Memento right now, and yes I know the plot is very serious and emotional and intense but literally all I can think of is how lucky it is that a major part of the plot requires Guy Pearce to be shirtless for extended periods of time
Then again, I’ve seen this movie so many times I can afford to not give the plot THAT much attention
Especially when half-naked Guy Pearce is onscreen
