Here are 8 must do activities for your perfect weekend in Oslo that not cost a fortune!
1. Operahuset
The Oslo Opera house is definitely one you must not miss out on a weekend in Oslo. Itâs free to walk around and on top of this beautiful piece of architecture. When the sun is out itâs the perfect spot for a sunbath with a view!
2. Akershus Festning
The Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle in the center of Oslo. Itâs free to explore its grounds and take a stroll along the wall. Several events take place there in summer.
3. Frognerparken
Frogner Park is a public park north of the center of Oslo.Â
Eventhough it is not really in walking distance from the center itâs still worth a visit. The park is huge and perfect for a picnic. But the reason why you really need to come here is the permanent sculpture installation created by Gustav Vigeland.
4. Det Kongelige Slott
Itâs impossible to miss the Royal Palace at the end of Karl Johans gate.
Come here just before 1.30pm to see the changing of the guards!Â
5. Ferry Trip to Bygdøy and Vikingship Museum
Oslo is has so many Islands and one of them is Bygdøy - the museum island. A ferry trip is fun and not expensive. You can get a beautiful view of Osloâs harbour front and the Opera House.
On Bygdøy we decided to got to the Vikingship Museum which displays 3 original viking ships.
6. Mathallen Oslo
Mathallen Oslo is an indoor food market which is open every day. I am honest...you can get your food cheaper somewhere else. But with over 30 different mouthwatering stalls of Norwegian and international food you should at least come here once for some lunch or a coffee and a cinnamon bun.
7. Nasjonalmuseet
The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design has Norwayâs largest collection of art, truly impressive and interesting.
But mainly everyone comes here to see The Scream by Edvard Munch...including us.Â
8. Oslo Rüdhus
Last but not least: My favourite building in Oslo - the City Hall.
Some people say itâs in ugly but I think itâs beautiful architecture. It is also the place where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is being hosted.
Donât only look at it from the outside. Itâs free to go inside where stunning wall art awaits you.
