In my tribe we call her Oshimiri (Nne Mmiri=mother of the waters). Others call her Yemaya but she remains the same, she who is plentiful, she who brings healing, she who protects and guards her people. Her never-ending love reminds us that she's the river that never runs dry (Oshimiri atata). Her tale traversed the Atlantic with her stolen people from West Africa, but they never forgot her, for she now still remains in their hearts as the mother of the sea.
She's now colloquially also known as "Mami Wata" tho she was tainted by the descent of women in society brought by colonization. And yet she still is...
