for the prompt thing: loras meeting renly's family for the first time?
Gonna go with a modern AU setting if thatâs alright? I figured a Westeros setting would be a bit dull.
Renly stopped in the middle of the stairwell, his hand linked with Lorasâ as he tried to drag him up the stairs and into the safety of his room. Bringing Loras to his house during the summer and winter breaks was always⌠tense. Renly didnât want to share Loras. He also didnât want to introduce him to the completely fucked up world that was his home life, in case Loras came to his senses and realized thisâ what they hadâ was a massive mistake.Â
Lorasâ house was saferâ it had always been safer in every sense of the word. But Lorasâ house was currently off-limits, his parents playing host to out-of-the-country guests. They didnât need two university aged men running around, slamming doors, and⌠doing other loud things.
And so they were stuck at Renlyâs, the weather outside trapping them inside. Renly thought maybe if he could sneak Lorasâ up to his room in time, Robert wouldnât notice them. He was too busy watching the news and smoking his cigars to care most days anyways, and too drunk to even notice that Renly was home, let alone bringing a bloke up to his room.
But luck was not on his side.Â
âWhat?â he asked, looking down the stairwell to see Robert stood in the doorway to one of the many living rooms that made up the Baratheon family home.Â
âIs this him?â Robert repeated, tilting his jaw at Loras. He said it like Loras wasnât even thereâ like Loras wasnât the most goddamn important thing in Renlyâs fucked up life. Like Loras was just some passing fancy like one of Robertâs many affairs.
âYeah, Iâm him,â Loras said defiantly. He didnât say anything when Renly dropped his hand quickly. It was a bad habit. Loras deserved better.Â
Heading down the stairs, Loras stuck his hand out for a shake, a haughtiness about him that Renly loved but knew would get him into trouble one day. âIâm Lorasâ Loras Tyrell.â
Renly stood on the steps, locked in place, watching the exchange with his heart beating a mile a minute. Heâd never brought a boy home; heâd never really told Robert he was gay. It had just been some assumed thing that floated awkwardly above them, both of them knowing it but neither willing to talk about it.
âA Tyrell, hm?â Robert replied. He shook Lorasâ hand firmly.Â
âYeah, a Tyrell,â Loras said, matching Robertâs grip.
âYou know, your father ran against me last election.â
âAnd yet you still won!â Renly saidâ a little too loudly. Practically jumping down the steps, Renly grabbed Lorasâ elbow and pulled him up the stairs. âGood seeing you Robert; nice chat and all, but now we have to go,â he called down the stairs.
Practically jogging to his bedroom, Renly threw open the door and let Loras inside before slamming it shut. Staying hunched over the handle of the door, Renly took a few steadying breaths, desperate to come up with something witty and deflective to say in order to hide the embarrassment.Â
He could still smell the stench of alcohol on Robertâs breath.
âYou⌠wanna talk about how much of a ponce your brother is?â Loras asked slowly.Â
Renly snorted and turned around, relaxing as he looked upon Lorasâ still there, still present, still smiling. He had met Robert and seen what the Baratheons could become and he was⌠he was still here.
âIâd rather make out until we both forget the sight of my brotherâs belly hanging out from under his shirt, to be perfectly honest.â
Loras laughed which made Renly ease up even further. Taking his face between his hands, Loras kissed Renly deeply. Renlyâs heart began to race again, but this time for entirely different reasons.
