I was surprised by the negativity after Green Book took the big award of the night, so I went to check what was being said and here’s my take.

1. It’s not accurate

Well, no movie is. All movies ‘based on true story” aren’t actually true or show exactly what happened in real life (for pacing and what not). The Favourite is a fiction story about real people, BlackKklansman embelished many details about the real story (there was no explosion, “Flip Zimmerman” wasn’t jew), Bohemian Rhapsody... I don’t even need to say it.

2. It’s bad

That’s subjective, but an actor can’t give a good perfomance if he is working with a bad material and if you believe Mahershala Ali deserved the win then you have to admit that the script has some part in it.

3. The controversies

The controversies in no way affected the movie quality, so it’s really a non-issue, since movies aren’t judged over their controversies. Also, Viggo Mortensen’s situation was completly taken out of context, so take that out of your list of reasons to hate the ‘movie’.

4. The movie didn’t focus enough on Don Shirley

People say the movie was suppose to be about Don Shirley’s life and I’m not sure where they got it from, the movie was obviously about the friendship between the two main characters set in a particular situation, not a particular individual, maybe someday someone will make a Don Shirley biopic, that ain’t it.

5. It wasn’t ground-breaking

Okay, so we have another super hero movie, another movie about english royality, another movie about a famous person, another movie about racism, another movie about american politics... Gee, how can you even walk on such a broken ground?

6. Black Panther/ Bohemian Rhapsody/ Blackkklansman deserved to win

So did Roma/ Vice/ The Favourite/ A Star is Born. That’s the point of being nominated.

Now, did Green Book deserve the Best Picture award?
