@orrinhatch has passed away. We were backstage at an event in Salt Lake City and I was walking with him toward the podium just before his speech. In a whisper he said to me "I understand from my people that you don't like me very much. " I hosted a radio show on @ksl_newsradio . We stopped and I looked at him and whispered back "that isn't true sir. In fact I tell everyone about your unlikely brotherhood with Ted Kennedy. The fact you said you were running the first time so you could cancel out his votes. And then you wound up being best friends helping each other pass legislation that would better the country. Far from disliking you. you and Senator Kennedy remind me that there is still hope for our country." He got a big smile on his face. Mind you there were a lot of things that he stood for and supported that I found repugnant. I say this as an LGBTQ man. But the friendship he forged with Senator Kennedy will forever be an example of what is possible. I wish him peace. I hope he is hanging with his old buddy tonight. And my heart goes out to his widow and children. 🙌 #orrinhatch (at Salt Lake City, Utah) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcuNOQ5OQEt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
