So, I convinced my speech professor to allow me to have my persuasive speech on not putting a womans body up for political debate and i have some solid points but i feel like I dont have enough to back up. could you help me out? I mean it doesnt even have to be just you but if some of your followers could help me out that would be amazing! im really passionate about this, but I want as much info/evidence/etc as i can get so my point is clear and everyone gets the message
My speech professor was very strict on not letting anyone do their persuasive speech on abortion, so good for you for arguing the case!
If you’ve got the time, I suggest reading through A Storysharing Guide for Ethical Advocates by Exhale. One of the first things they talk about is “choose to empower, not exploit” - and I think that is the most important thing for both pro-choice and pro-life advocates to remember when using someone’s story to push their movement. This might give you some extra insight as to why our bodies should not be a political debate.
My wonderful friend Kate (who runs the provoicesupportblog) once said to me: “I hope my story never solidifies anyone’s political agenda, because I’m a human being, not a hot button issue.” And I just - man, I basically had a religious experience when she told me that. I can’t see how it’s okay to put a human being’s body up for political debate; we are not a damn platform!
And let’s not forget bodily autonomy! The right to your own body should never, ever be some sort of debate.
I hope this helps! Followers, I’m opening this up to you as well because y’all have some good stuff to say!
