Orkoraptor is yet another megaraptor from Argentina, found in the Pari Aike Formation of Southern Patagonia. It lived in the Maastrichtian stage of the Late Cretaceous, from about 70 to 66 million years ago. It had very specialized teeth, resembling those of maniraptors like deinonychosaurs and ornithomimiforms. This lead to it being suggested as a coelurosaur, which was then rejected in favor of it being described as a carnosaur. However, the authors who described it have been vindicated in that it is now reclassified as a tyrannosauroid. It was one of the southernmost carnivores known in South America. It might have been restricted there due to the carcharodontids and abilsaurids in the north.
