Starter tips for Writers
When I entered into the hobby of writing, I faced several disappointments – some were related to my own short comings and others because of people and their (false) criticism. There are no complicated rules for being a writer, trust me if you have a pen and paper with buckets full of imagination, you can be a writer. Don’t let anyone belittle you. Here are a few things I have learned in the past years and I decided to share them! Here are very simple and basic tips for writing! 1. Imagination – you cannot write until you have a story in your mind. I didn’t start writing until I was in eleventh grade and the thing that triggered me to do it was my overactive imagination. I was always making up stories in my mind, crafting weird worlds and my own characters. 2. You should know your language well; no I am not talking about grammar and all that jazz. In fact you should know enough to write stuff that makes sense and that people can understand. When you write your first draft, DO NOT worry about mistakes, they can always be edited later. However, there should a flow in your writing, so the readers will feel comfortable reading your work and this can only be achieved through a strong grip over a language. 3. Read. Read. Read. The best advice that anyone can give you regarding writing is reading books. Books allow you to create, they widen your imagination, they enhance your vocabulary, they make you learn things that you might have not even learn in your English class at school. I suggest reading in the genre you want to write in. If you are bad at writing coherent sentences or balancing your characters, no workshop or blogs can help you as much as books can. I wasn’t a reader before, in fact books never made sense to me. I started reading with Harry Potter and the next moment I knew, I was obsessed with books. 4. Inspiration – you need be remain inspired to write. Inspiration can come through a lot of things; books, pictures, movies, songs and what not. You can also try websites like Tumblr, Pinterest, Photopin, Flickr etc. 5. If there’s a plot brewing in your mind, get a paper and a notebook and write it down. Map out the details, add little notes about it, scribble things you want to add in your story, you can always draw mind maps to help you. Plan your story with great care, jot down the pain plot devices, climax and resolution. Writing these things down always help. I am always being flooded with a lot of ideas and I have a notebook where I write them down. I might post pictures too. (Someday) 6. Characters – No matter how many characters you create, either they are main or minor, be sure you know them. You should be familiar with your characters; after all they are a part of yourself. Plan them well, give them solid personalities and make sure you know what roles they play. I write my characters down as well, adding every single detail (birthdays, family members etc). Also, they should not be bleak, writing strong characters do not mean that the person kicks everyone’s ass and have steel like muscles. A strong character is someone with a definite personality, someone as real as you and I, someone with goals, purposes, a life story, faults, qualities – someone who can make you feel something. I will make a detailed post about characters later. 7. Guys, if you want to write a book, do not look at rules. Trust me in this, ‘’don’t use adverbs’’, ‘’don’t use more than one point of view’’, ‘’don’t write books about space’’ yada yada. These things do not matter. Write whatever you want to write. Is it cliché? Go for it, no one can stop you. Is it stupid? Cool, as long as you have guts to write it, so be it. Is it creepy? Even cooler! Just write it down without caring for the damned world. The only thing you need to worry is writing a wrong thing – like romanticizing abuse, or writing about being One direction’s sex slave. Write anything you want but do set limit to healthy things. 8. Most people who want to enter into publishing world start worrying about failure before even trying. I know getting published is not easy, but you need to trust yourself before doing anything else. Also, if ever in doubt, remember that a book like 50 shades of Grey and a Harry Styles fan fiction which is a horrible version of smut got published. 10. I know I said that books will help you with the flow and all that, but you can also expand your writing world by stalking blogs of professional writers or seeing other people’s progress. V-logs also help. Talk to writers like yourself, make writer friends and discuss your story with them. 11. If in doubt, start with fan fics. Fan fictions have no limits, you already have a world, the only thing you need to do is to write. Fan fictions thus give a great practice if you are a new writer. 12. If you are a writer and you are posting your work online, you should be ready to receive criticism. Criticism helps you to improve, even if it offends you, swallow down your pride and accept it. However, please don’t let false criticism affect you. What is false criticism? Let me explain; once I posted this story on wattpad and someone wrote a 200 word critique on it. They said all sorts of stupid things. I used a character’s name in a dialogue of the main character, but I did not introduce that said character in the chapter because I was planning to do that later. This person ranted about this and said I was confusing the readers. In self doubt, I deleted the story. I was so wrong because it turned out that this is possible. I can mention someone in a story without properly introducing them. Heck even JK. Rowling did this is The Philosopher stone – she used Sirius Black’s name but he wasn’t introduced until the third book. Do you get the idea? 13. Don’t rush things, write every scene with required detail, do not fly through filler scenes. Give each segment of your story equal attention. Describe enough that your reader gets the picture, do not bore them though. Descriptions also vary with genres, if you are writing fantasy, you would need a LOT of description. 14. Lastly, if you wanna be a writer, there are no shortcuts. Grab your stuff and start writing!
I had an idea
We should pick a day on tumblr where everyone has to make at least one original post, like a text post, art, or a selfie. Just so there's a wave of new content.

You ever wonder about Chrichton's kids from the breakaway colonies in "Look at the Princess"?
Crichton made quite a name for himself, especially after leaving the breakaways. He and D'Argo had at least local fame for robbing the shadow depository. And you know the Empress never decided to abandon the Tyno-is-John ruse. Oho no. They attempted a coverup, maybe by saying that the famous space bandit Crichton was an impostor.
So a hundred years later, we have the descendants of little D'Argo Sun-Crichton running around being badass and the breakaway heiress is all, "No, I'm the daughter of Far-traveler John Crichton. Yours must be some alien who co-opted the name," and they're like, "Whatever. Granddad warned me to never have sex with you under any circumstances. That's all I'm saying."
That moment when people are like, “I want REAL food.” I am pretty sure McDonalds serves non-imaginary food.
oh god this latest fic chapter I wrote
I already knew it was pretty mean but I just read it to Karen and hearing it out loud...
I've done a bad thing
