I've heard a lot people say recently stuff like "if you have a gender preference you're pansexual, if you don't you're omnisexual" but that is not necessarily that the case. For example:
An omnisexual person does not prefer one gender over others, however the act of them being attracted to men feels different then the act of being attracted to women. Or an omnisexual person finds certain traits attractive in one gender but finds difference traits attractive in a different gender. In these examples they do not prefer one gender over the other but gender is still a factor in there attraction. This is an example of omnisexuals who do not have a gender preference.
A pansexual who doesn't feel any internal difference between their attention to any genders. However, they prioritize their attraction to men. If they had to choose the gender of their partner, it would be a man. This is an example of a pansexual who had a gender preference.
And at the end of the day: it doesn't matter the exact them someone uses. If someone is more comfortable identifies as omni or as pan then they can do that.
