but back to the original question it is really disturbing and i put the book down for awhile and thought about it and like tried to see it from Jamie’s mind set and his upbringing and the Scottish mindset because we are modern readers reading something from a time period that we aren’t familiar with and yes its wrong and inhumane to us but he does come around in the end too once he knows why she ran in the first place and he does apologize and feel incredibly guilty (he shoulda felt guilty before obviously but i feel like their relationship is so like different in the sense that theyre these two strong characters who have to learn how to be married to one another so yeah it made me uncomfortable what he did to her there and yes he does “rape her” and sadly women were NOT as lucky in that time period but like i donno these two things definitely bug me but there are so many different things too like they save each other’s asses more than once and just theyre equals (most of the time) so i donno if you get to the end of the book he gains SO MUCH RESPECT FOR HER like he grows and grows to be more aware of who Claire is and accepts her 100% and protects her but yeah if you get to the end he really sees her differently and depends on her even so yeah these are troubling factors in their relationship but they really do grow from that.
