A deeper look into my material studies. I’ve started organizing which can resemble a product that i can tackle a product with. Here’s a new one: motion sickness. This would require a lot of anatomical studying, but I think it would be interesting. I’ll have to see if that already exists (I bet it does). Another newfound topic: collapsible workstation. This came up in my sketches before, but I did not bother to take the idea further until I saw some shapes in my material study that might have some transformational qualities that can contribute to making a workstation, or maybe a bag or sorts, etc. Also important: Why did I choose denim? Andrew asked me this question and I told him that honestly, it’s because that’s what people wear the most. It seems to be a fallback option for clothing, at worst, and at best it’s fashionable. It permeates all of our lives. And it’s what we trust as rugged, strong material that’s also comfortable as clothing which also makes it reliable. That’s intriguing to me, so I chose denim. Some things I learned about denim: It’s very strong. It is sturdy, and it can be used to make interesting textures (by wetting, crimping, heating, etc). It retains a shape, and can remember folds with ease. It’s soft. It’s a contradictory material.
