As for a character, I won't say everyone hates this character, not at all. A lot of people love him. But I watch a lot of first time reactions to movies and I have to say one of the most unfairly hated characters in those is Pippin from Lord of the Rings. As someone who both adores him and relates to him, some of the takes I've seen infuriate me. Why are you expecting this young, sheltered guy to know exactly how to act and think in life or death situations? Why are you comparing him to Aragorn? Even if the movies don't explain that he's basically a teenager by Hobbit standards, they do make it very clear that he's very naive and unprepared. Why are you getting angry at him for saying he knows Frodo when Frodo never told him not to say anything? Why are you angry at him for tossing some rocks into a body of water? As someone with ADHD, I'd probably do the same thing without a thought. He's just a dude! That's the whole point! The Hobbits are just dudes! They're not fighters, they're not survivalists. They're just random guys tossed into a world that's quite literally too big for them.

@orchidsrotten asked this one, too, so I'm gonna include more than one. I don't know if either of these count as "everybody" loving them, but both are well respected movies, especially in the film world. One is, undoubtedly, more well known than the other.
Gone With the Wind (1939) - I'm not going to touch on the more problematic theming, the movie and book were products of their time and it would be too much to get into here. Scarlett O'Hara is iconic, no one can deny that, but dear god is she annoying. She and Rhett are both absolutely insufferable. Does the movie have some nice costuming? Yes. Interesting filming techniques? Yes. But the main characters only compel me to stop watching and the movie has an obvious good end spot in the middle!!! It doesn't help that this was my grandmother's favorite movie and we had to watch it at least once a year.
The Turin Horse (2011) - If watching paint dry was a movie, this would be it. This is a Hungarian film about a guy and his daughter and the oncoming apocalypse. It's shot in black and white and it's known for its long takes. Now, I'm a fan of a good long take (Alfonso Cuarón's style is amazing), but this nearly 2.5hr film has only 30 shots. That means 30 cuts in the whole thing. That means a lot of dead silence, a lot of lingering on things that don't matter. Paired with an incredibly repetitive score, this movie could be considered a form of torture, in my opinion. Have you ever had to sit through watching an old man with one arm eating an entire boiled potato with one hand, sound effects and all? I have. Multiple times. Because he does it multiple times in this film.

Astarion hasn't seen this one coming. What Shadowheart just said, but also her in general. He couldn't live for so long being Cazador's slave. He doesn't even know what it really feels like, and now, no one knows how things will end. They still have so much to do. But he knows that if they both survive this mess... he might be actually interested to spend more time with her, no matter how crazy it sounds.
"I don't know about the future, darling." Astarion wants to be realistic, it's totally possible that they both die in one of the upcoming fights. He hasn't been really good with optimism, even if he wants to believe things will end well. "But I'm willing to choose you now, if you feel the same." Choosing someone, without planning to bring them to Cazador. He has never done such a thing.

forgiveness was a new concept to him, for there was no such thing in menzoberranzan as a male. there was only consequence, punishment, and the never-ending threat of death at the slightest misstep. the mistake - missing the implication of something she'd said - ate away at his insides like bile. he had tried to be so careful, but even the most careful person could err. as he well knew.
the last big mistake he'd made had nearly cost him his life, had caused his sister's death. from that, there was no return. the way shadowheart described atonement though, it sounded so . . . simple. if rhys didn't already know that her tone meant sincerity, he'd wonder if it was a prank. he struggled to meet her eyes, old habits of deference and obedience overwhelming him, but he made his best effort to make silver meet green regardless. he swallowed down the urge to apologize again.
