They always position Lando as foil to Oscar's "cool, calm, controlled" demeanour. They try to present Oscar as skilled and consistent but Lando as erratic, lucky, only good by accident or when things go in his favour. When Lando has been far more consistent than Oscar over his career. Even at his worst last year, the man never dropped below 2nd whereas Oscar ended up 3rd (this isn't anti-Oscar btw, I love him, just to point out how non-evidence based people's analysis of them is).

The whole allegation is based on nothing but emotional projection because their brain can't process the facts that counter their preconceived notions about who they think Lando is and how he performs.

And what's funniest to me is that they keep trying to shove Oscar into their macho male power fantasy of cool guy with aura who's unfazed by everything and above it all when it couldn't be further from the truth.

He's just a lil dude who likes racing cars!! He genuinely is one of the more emotional, expressive, and sensitive people on the grid! Like can't you see how much he cares, how affected he is by his performance every single time?? He might keep his words fairly neutral and distant, unlike some other drivers, but his emotions are always written all over his face.

And what's even more funny is that Oscar clearly likes Lando a lot. He latched on to Lando out of all other people on the grid for a reason! He liked Lando before he even knew him! There is some part of him that finds emotional connection and safety in Lando being how he is.

Lando and Oscar are more alike than people want to accept and everyone who is close to them says the same thing.

my (completely rpf) theory of Lando's and Oscar's sexuality is that Lando is the kind of guy who loves anything and anyone pretty and enjoys chasing+getting fun things in life, one of which is women. but, if he sat and thought about it for a more than a second, would realise that he has more meaningful relationships with men and enjoys spending time w + touching them more. but will never find the time or allow himself to have a think about it (until something/someone forces him to)

like i can now cite events from memory and reference evidence like photographs and comments organically in conversation.

i can weave them into my own creations without having to look them up again. i can identify those same original set of incidents and base assumptions in the new work i come across.

i have full schemas of different characterisations of the main players and the old and influential work that triggered them. i know how those concepts evolved over time with new information coming to light.

i know which people and which works disagree with those interpretations and forked off into a new subfield.

here you're mostly going to find f1 stuff. and a lot of rpf—primarily landoscar. with a little bit of prosenna thrown in sometimes. (as you can probably tell i'm fond of teammate rivalries)

p.s: i come to tumblr for a nice time. i am invested in the sport, but will not be engaging in/with any hate—for drivers, or ships, or wags, or other blogs. (team/fia hate is ok. corpos are not people.)

lando norris got me into f1 so he is important to me, personally (but i don't think he's a perfect faultless angel at all times, if that's a concern for you). i also love oscar, and root for george and lewis. but tbh all drivers compel me in different ways, so i'm never really upset at any of them winning.

been reading By Conquest's Right by @amilyame and I have to say there's something so WangXian about landoscar

like not just in this AU bc it's Roman Empire and has a fierce, untamable and audacious Lando going head to head with a disciplined, tightly restrained on the surface yet a deeply devoted Oscar who feels everything intensely and worships the ground at Lando's feet

(although the fic was what made the pieces click together)

but just in general, even irl. their dynamic has some heavy wangxian vibes.

something about the way Oscar is the picture perfect poster boy for f1, the one who everyone projects their fantasies of the ideal driver, the one who fits the mold, the stoic, skilled, patient world champion in the making. who isn't really like that at all, deep down, but hides how emotional he really is to protect himself. and he finds solace in the one person who is his exact opposite, who goes against every rule he's built for himself yet feels like the only authentic thing about the world. is drawn to him like moth to a flame, like a beacon in the night beckoning him home.

versus the raw, unrestrained, rule-breaking yet deeply kind and soft energy that lando brings to the grid. someone with a lot of raw talent who struggles to tame it, is dogged by his own demons yet chooses to be kind to other people every time, even when it costs him. someone who is understimated all the time because of how he refuses to fit in, refuses to be what others expect him to be. chooses to march to the beat of his own drum.

how he finds a surprising intimacy in the companionship of the person who he took to be so closed off and inscrutable at the start. who was nothing like his previous companions but something about him kept drawing him back. kept him poking at his seams until his hands found the soft core inside. until it hits him that this is deeper, more meaningful than anything he's ever had before. who finds an anchor in him regardless of all the forces pulling them apart.

and how everyone expects him to fail, to not be able to win against the strength of their armies, yet somehow he triumphs. even against their favoured prodigal son. while the prodigal son was the only person who saw it coming, saw that capacity in him, that potential. the only one who took him seriously, was afraid of him and for him.

and how despite the world pitting them against each other, forcing them to fight on opposite sides of their war. they remain deeply devoted to each other. together, against it all. soft only for one another. building a home to grow old in together at the end of that long battle.

last book: had started reading 1984 before i got caught up in uni. (i know i'm very late to the party)

last movie: minority report. i love time travel movies so a side quest in my life is working my way through every single one ever made

last TV show: the pitt (haven't finished season 2 yet though)

tea or coffee: i love both but i can't survive without coffee so coffee

current obsession: apart from f1? i've been trying my hand at poetry. it's not very good but i'm having fun.

earbuds/headphones: bluetooth earbuds. the wired are harder to lose, but unfortunately so much easier to break. headphones are just too much to carry.

favourite crisp flavour: balsamic vinegar and salt

colour that looks good on you: not to suck my own dick, but almost all of them? pinks and reds look the best though i think, but any bright colours do. greens and blues too.
