Leo’s parents adopted him (these based on Splinter and Scumbug OBVI).
He never met either of his biological parents because they gave him up in adoption after he was born. After a few times of asking his caretaker, and her wanting him to know the truth, she told him that the reason he was in adoption was because his bio parents felt they were too young and wouldn’t be able to economically raise him. So they did it for him to live a better life.
Although he’s from the region of Paldea, Leo gets adopted at eight and moves to Hisui with his adopted parents.
While at Hisui, Leo grew attached to Pokémon who didn’t seem to be as liked or known as other Pokémon.
So while most kids his age had a Rowlet or a Cyndaquil, Leo started off with a Mimikyu.
He never wanted to be a trainer or anything famous. He never liked being center of attention, and preferred the idea of staying in the sidelines while other people took the spotlight.
He preferred learning about more unknown or ‘scary’ like Pokémon, Pokémon who were mainly left behind.
So at 14 years old, he set off as a Pokémon photographer, to learn about these Pokémon throughout the world and show people that these Pokémon are worth loving too.
