Is there a difference with the use of chichiue(?) and otou-san? When I was watching OP 793, Yonji used chichiue while Sanji used otou-san... So I am curious if there is or not really?
āOtou-sanā and āchichiueā both meanĀ āfatherā but the latter is much more formal. I donāt know if you can further formalize the English wordĀ āfatherā in such a way, but I think you can translateĀ āotou-sanā to both āfather/dadā, whereas āchichiueā can only be translated to āfatherā. I think the anime team (or Oda) made kid Sanji use a different term when calling Judge to stress how innocent and childlike he was compared to his siblings. The usage of āotou-sanā might also imply how much he wanted to become close to his father *cries in a corner*Ā

So yeah, I bought the first 4 ONE PIECE PARTY mangas from Japan, and started translating them to myself because I couldnāt really find all of them translated. Meanwhile I thought that Iād translate some to tumblr as well, if anyone else is as thirsty as me for ONE PIECE content.. Anyway, Iām not insanely good in japanese, so if you notice mistakes, do tell me, Iām trying to study it more to be able to read more easily.Ā

In the English verson, Zoroās line here was something likeĀ āhe mightāve gone all lovey-dovey and okayed the marriageā. While this translation isnāt exactly wrong, what he actually said in the raw version wasĀ āhe might stretch his philtrum (the groove under the nose) and be pleased about the marriage.ā I didnāt recognize the importance of this line of his until...

Zoro really did hit the mark, didnāt he? Kinda shows how well he knows Sanji, to the point of not missing the amusing detail of the ero-kappa face he loooves to make fun of :3 Ā
In the raw version, Sanjiās line here is ćåø°ćććć(kaeritai = I want to go back). Whatās noteworthy is that he didnāt say ćåø°ćć¦ćć(kaeriteh), which is the same in meaning but is a more masculine way of saying it. My guess is that Oda purposefully changed Sanjiās usual gruff way of speaking so that he could deliver how desperately he wants to go home (ātaiā means āwantā after all).
That being said, when asked to speak up his true mind, Sanji only said he wants to go back, not that he wants help. He didnāt even think for once about getting assistance from his nakama, just that heād like to go back :ā( I really hope Luffy manages to convince him that itās okay to get help, that he more than deserves all the love and support from the crew he endears so much.
I usually donāt approve of Mangastreamās translations, but this part was really well done.Ā
Sanjiās line simply couldāve beenĀ āI want to go back to the Sunnyā, but instead itāsĀ āI want to go home to the Sunnyā - what better way to remind the readers where Sanjiās heart truly belongs?Ā
The one wordĀ āhomeā truly hit home here.Ā
