You duck below the window sill and listen intently to their conversation. The woman has a thick southern accent, and you can’t discern what she’s saying as she rapidly chatters away at the man for a good minute before he responds in a deep, rumbling voice.

 “Ellie, slow down,” he says, and while he sounds naturally threatening you can detect a sort of fondness in his tone. “What’s this about a guest?”

 This Ellie character laughs. “Not a guest, at least I don’t think! A human perhaps? Nadiya is waiting for dinner to introduce us, she’s so boring. I want to meet them now,” she cries in a childish whine. You can picture her stomping her foot in a huff.

 Wait, hold up…are they…not humans? You don’t dare pop your head up to look now but they both seemed very human from what you saw.

 The man grumbles to himself for a moment. “Ellie, if there’s a human about we should take care. I’m going to head inside, I suggest you do the same.” You hear the clank of metal against metal. “And get down from there, what if someone sees you?”

 “Ugh, you’re boring today too, George. I’ll see you at dinner.” You wait a few minutes and their conversation doesn’t pick back up.

You brush the snow off your knees, already shivering. You are not equipped for this weather. You turn around, thinking to look for a jacket in the Skypedis, but the cardboard box has already vanished.
