Operation India: Who Fears Democracy?
Indian politics is witnessing a strange spectacle. The ruling establishment appears stronger than ever, controlling governments, institutions, narratives, and electoral machinery. Yet, despite this apparent dominance, there seems to be an increasing urgency to weaken, divide, or absorb opposition forces. The obvious question is: if victory is certain, why the constant political operations?
Across states, political parties that once stood as fierce rivals suddenly become allies. Leaders who spent years attacking one another discover unexpected ideological similarities overnight. Defections are celebrated as political wisdom, while loyalty is dismissed as political irrelevance. Is this the evolution of democracy, or the slow replacement of electoral competition with political acquisition?
But the spotlight should not remain only on the ruling side. The opposition deserves equally tough questions.
Why are opposition leaders spending more energy competing against each other than challenging policies affecting ordinary citizens? Why does every alliance appear united in press conferences but divided on the ground? If unemployment, inflation, education crises, farmer distress, and economic uncertainty are genuine concerns, where is the coordinated national movement to address them?
Most importantly, who is leading the opposition today? If both political rivals and supposed allies constantly attack one leader, does that indicate weakness or growing political relevance? And if other opposition leaders disagree with his approach, what alternative vision are they offering to the nation?
The voter is watching carefully. Citizens are no longer interested in political dramas, secret deals, or poster wars. They want answers, accountability, and leadership.
The real crisis may not be whether democracy is under threat. The real crisis may be whether enough leaders still remember that democracy belongs to the people, not to political empires.
