do you they have pets?: not of her own, no, but like i mentioned, she’s spends so much time with other people’s pets that she gets her puppy fix.
something they have on them at all times: mercy’s adoptive parents, carol and paul, gave mercy a tiny Polly Pocket doll when they picked her up from the adoption agency for the first time. “we’ve all got brand new jobs now that we’re family,” her new mother had said to her. “our job is to take care of you. yours can be to take care of Polly. how does that sound?”
mercy remembered feeling power and agency for the first time in her young life at those words. she also felt special. it was the first toy that she’d ever received a toy of her very own and she can still remember the way she clutched Polly in her palm the whole ride to her new home, so tightly that the sharp edges of the small doll made deep and painful indentations into her skin. ever since then, she’s always kept that silly little toy on her, in her wallet. after all, her parents never broke their promise to take care of her, so she figures she’ll continue keeping up her end of the bargain, too.

would they survive a zombie apocalypse?: tbh, she’d probably survive for much longer than anyone would expect and that would be solely due to the fact that she can make anyone laugh. she’s the kind of person who rarely meets a stranger, if you know what i mean, and i think she’d be a pro at keeping a certain lighthearted vibe within a group that would help everyone around her survive just that much longer.
