Opinel project update. The carbon #6 has become the guinea pig for all sorts of experimentation while I am making plans for the #7 and #8. I am learning to sharpen the blade on a whetstone while it’s temporarily put on the bubinga handle. On the original beech handle front, I took off too much and the blade was exposed a bit when closed. I was forced to reshape the blade from the original clip point to a drop point. Following the instructions on the Lee Valley pure tung oil, I am planning on putting on 5-6 coats of tung oil and giving it the full week between each coat. It’s going to take a month and a half to finish this little Opinel #6.
