she's never gone undercover before. never worked for the enemy (not knowingly, anyway, but it'll do her no good right now to think about s.t.a.r.s and its captain and how everything had been perfect, been almost like family, until the cracks started to show at arklay manor, until everything fell apart).
and rebecca wouldn't normally consider acting one of her strong suits -- she was pre-med, not theatre -- so she wouldn't be doing this (this, being: pretending to be a second year lab intern at tricell; their operation is large enough that not everyone knows each other, and rebecca looks enough like the girl on her badge that she hasn't encountered any trouble so far) if she didn't have a better option. but she truly didn't. the bsaa has been remarkably tight-lipped, even for their standards, and wouldn't give rebecca half of what she needed to even think about an adapted vaccine for a mutating g. not a priority right now, they'd dismissed her with. but if she could just look at the workings of the lab that had risen, phoenix-like, from umbrella's ashes -- if she could find out what they'd salvaged from raccoon city, if there truly was need to be worried, proof she could give her superiors to say, look, i was right, we need to be worried about this virus mutating further. sometimes, a little paranoia is a good thing. she'd learned that the hard way.
so here she is, and she thinks she's doing okay so far, grabbing the occasional coffee for a sleep-deprived scientist, planning on slowly making her way to the more restricted levels, maybe pretending she forgot a keycard, or was sent for some kind of emergency and that's why she didn't have the right clearance? okay, she hadn't figured it all out yet, but these thoughts flee in an instant when she turns a corner and bumps into a very familiar face. rebecca just manages to stop herself from blurting out @opherative's name and blowing her cover. "oh! hello. i don't believe we've met," she says, instead. lying badly. no way that ada isn't going to recognize her, but she's gambling on the spy being too concerned about her own interests to be motivated to screw over rebecca. (and hopefully, ada's fond enough of her not to want to expose her if she doesn't have to.) "miss..?"
