he’d really just been trying to help. brad had been new to this job once too — the umbrella corporation may be a fantastic company, a leader in its humanitarian efforts both at home and abroad, but it can be a little daunting as a workplace. and some of the higher ups aren’t always the nicest, especially when they haven’t had their coffee yet.

“i just — well, the orientation is the other way.”

and the new intern (ada, her nametag sticker says in red sharpie) seems nice, too, which is why the sharpness in her tone had surprised him. brad’s gran always said he was too trusting. but he doesn’t think it’s a flaw to see the good in people!

so he decides to chalk up the sharpness in ada’s voice to nerves. understandable.

@opherative looks like no other woman in the village, is clearly an outsider. there's still intelligence in her eyes, not replaced by the dull devotion to mother miranda and her cult. it should concern bela, but it makes her curious as well, as she approaches the woman's cell to interrogate her.

juli could sense that the woman in front of her was no stranger to accepting dangerous, possibly deadly missions, yet, even with her minimal authority, she wanted to change her opinion. even juli knew of the dangers behind the project, despite not entering it herself. perhaps it was that sense of morality that dug its way into her, like a gold—loving politician with one true goal in mind.

of course, juli barely did her research on the elusive ada wong, only received a small file with only a couple of facts, no weak points to exploit. so perhaps her efforts were wasted on ada. perhaps she shouldn’t go through the fuss of trying to convince the agent otherwise.

that’s what she would’ve wanted if it was her in that position.

but, of course, juli knew nothing of ada’s history. nothing of the connections. nothing of what caused her to make such a hasty decision.

❝ no. ❞ the mobius agent muttered, reaching to the side of the table and pulling out a folder, opening it to reveal a variety of papers, each with various pictures attached to it. ❝ we can appreciate your enthusiasm though. ❞ to being lobotomised, juli wanted to add, yet her determination would not receive a reward at the current time.

she had to be patient.

❝ despite mobius’ overwhelming desire to access your brain, there’s honestly no need for you to give up your freedom of having private memories. yet, in the prototype, there is a high possibility this privacy will be breached, due to seeing how the arrival of an agent will affect the town of union. ❞ juli paused. ❝ this is your only warning. your last chance. ❞

the babysitter’s eyes remained trained on ada as she stood from her seat, body jerking to the side as the waves crashed against the ship, hand moving like a magnet towards the desk, desperate for some sense of stability. her stance was tense, as if attempting to ground herself into the ship’s floor, not wanting to trip and ruin her composure.

it’s not like she didn’t expect ada to be there, infiltrating yet another clandestine organisation. but perhaps mia assumed she had moved on, now, like many of the employees do in such a career.

❝ you know me so well. ❞ mia joked, a sharp contrast to her usual approach, which was often characterised by her voice shrouded in suspicion yet ready for the mayhem that was bound to occur.

her eyes squeezed shut as the ship lurched, her hand moving to grasp the edge of the desk sharply. the constant movement of the ship was frustrating, but this was what mia had signed up to. as well as unwillingly becoming a host for eveline’s virus.

❝ hah. ❞ her voice turned dry, reaching out to wrap her fingers around the bottle. ❝ everything seems to be under control, but … ❞ mia paused, taking a large swig of the champagne. ❝ ah, it’s nothing. it’s just the sea making me uneasy. ❞

and rebecca wouldn't normally consider acting one of her strong suits -- she was pre-med, not theatre -- so she wouldn't be doing this (this, being: pretending to be a second year lab intern at tricell; their operation is large enough that not everyone knows each other, and rebecca looks enough like the girl on her badge that she hasn't encountered any trouble so far) if she didn't have a better option. but she truly didn't. the bsaa has been remarkably tight-lipped, even for their standards, and wouldn't give rebecca half of what she needed to even think about an adapted vaccine for a mutating g. not a priority right now, they'd dismissed her with. but if she could just look at the workings of the lab that had risen, phoenix-like, from umbrella's ashes -- if she could find out what they'd salvaged from raccoon city, if there truly was need to be worried, proof she could give her superiors to say, look, i was right, we need to be worried about this virus mutating further. sometimes, a little paranoia is a good thing. she'd learned that the hard way.

juli tapped the table, both hands laid flat on the surface before slowly retracting them, placing them on her lap for a moment. her lips parted— questions present on the end of her tongue— yet nothing was said.

she could always turn back … escape.

for mia, it was more than she would have liked to have kept from her family. she felt like a horrible person, day in, day out, having to report back to an organisation— the organisation— to help them commit crimes.

however, she didn’t feel like she could leave. not just because she wanted to continue to protect her co workers, but because she was made to do it.
