Elfaeden Overview of Common Suffixes
Ay more elfen language things! Influenced heavily by elvish in Dragon Age (and Fenxshiral's Project Elvhen.)
-an/-aan -> plural, akin to english '-s.'
Indicates More/Greater Intensity
-la/-ala -> many, most, best; big, large, high number
-el -> more; used mostly with adjectives or adverbs. on = good; on'el = better / ros = pink; rosel = pinker
-en -> many, plural, multiple
-s -> plural, many; suffix borrowed from the common tongue
-is -> plural, intensity: more, forever; an uncountable number. Sometimes means infinite, sometimes doesn't; just a very high number. ex: rahn = thing; rahnis = everything; lit "things uncountable." Usually only used for things that could be counted.
-ir -> very, much, a lot of. Is a general affix as well as a word on it's own.
Creating Nouns
-athe -> creates nouns from other nouns, adverbs, or adjectives. means 'the physical manifestation of.' or 'embodies.' ex: dead (noun) from dead (adjective); fearful (noun) from fearful (adjective) or fear (noun.)
-the -> added to verbs to create a noun meaning 'the action of the verb.' ex: rejection, connection, comparison
-ast/-st -> creates nouns meaning 'the action of' for verbs that end in -th, -tha, or -the.
-os -> creates an abstract noun from an adjective or participle; denoting quality of or state. Similar to english "-ness."
-sh/-sha -> creates a physical or abstract noun meaning 'product of' or 'variation of' a verb. ex: varasha (departure) from vara (to leave, to depart)
-un -> creates a noun from a verb or adjective meaning 'physical manifestation of' or 'having the quality of.' ex: thanun (use, purpose) from thana (to use)
-ast/-st -> creates nouns meaning 'the action of' for verbs that end in -th or -tha.
-elan -> creates an agent noun from a verb (or another noun); like "-er" in english. Ex: turns dara (to go, to travel) into darelan (traveler.)
Creating Adverbs & Adjectives
-ast/-st -> created adj/adv from nouns, verbs, or other adj/adv; meaning 'characterized by' or 'inclined to.' Sort of like '-y' in english.
-ne -> creates an adj/adv from a noun, meaning 'characteristic of' or 'inclined to.' ex: niane (open, empty) from nian (opening; hole)
-or -> creates an adj/adv meaning 'of', 'after the manner of', 'belonging to', or 'like, or inclined to.' Similar to english '-ish'.
-sha/-asha -> creates adj/adv from nouns, verbs, or other adj/adv, meaning 'characterized by' or 'inclined to.'
Diminutives
-ain -> meaning a childlike version; smaller, or cute
-u -> short, singular, small; alone, isolated. ex: mis (blade) and misu (dagger); or mad (dog) and madu (puppy)
-udh -> pretty, nice-looking, cute
-et -> small; borrowed from the common tongue
