kyanite: an anger headcanon
Alexius is usually a man of good temper, to the point that a few Tenno find it hard to imagine him angry at all. Beneath the pleasant demeanor, however, there’s a man that’s fiercely protective of his friends and loathes injustice. He wants to be a nice guy, but do not mistaken his kindness for weakness.
There are a few times that Alexius’ rage manifested clearly:
During the Zariman’s time adrift in the Void, when the children started banding together to survive, Alexius was assigned guard duty over the ship’s limited supplies. He’d try to convince any rogue kids, attempting to steal provisions for themselves, to work with the others—but if they came back with the attention of stealing again, he’d kick their sorry asses. He wouldn’t allow the self-interest and trepidation of a few doom the lives of many others.
After the children’s harrowing experience aboard the Zariman, Alexius didn’t expect the treatment they would receive at the hands of the Orokin. He understood the need for quarantine and examination, but he was outraged when the scientists started treating them as lab rats, carting off kids, kicking and screaming, for “extensive testing”. The Orokin dared to divide and isolate them, after all they had been through? He couldn’t bear it. He tried to stop the guards, and as his anger flared, lashed out at them, requiring him to be restrained and incapacitated. He needed to protect his new family, and he fought to keep them safe.
Alexius came to respect and even admire Margulis for treating the Zariman survivors like actual human beings, children nonetheless, who survived a traumatic event. So when Margulis was executed for defying the wishes of the Seven, all the while the Tenno could do nothing within the Second Dream that she had placed them in, he was pissed. He was all for slaughtering the Orokin Elite at the end of the war.
And boy, let me tell you, Alexius was not a happy camper about the predicament presented with the Gradivus Dilemma, in which the Tenno had to choose between saving innocent civilians and saving a cache of Tenno in cryo-sleep. He chose family, but it was not a pleasant time.
