So there was this day in New Orleans when I spied a 🐍 winding around a man after a woman allowed herself to be draped by one. An adventurer at heart, I wasn’t scared. I did remember hearing that snakes carried germs which are detrimental to the health of humans. So much so, that humans should immediately wash their hands after handling them. Not to mention, who is going to save me if this snake chokes me out?! So, I decided that Bourbon Street was not the time or place to test my ability to manage a snake. In life, we are presented with opportunities that may or may not be ideal based on where we are in our lives at the time. It’s okay to wait for another opportunity to present itself, when circumstances are optimal. In fact, it’s wise to do so. Being able to distinguish when to do and not to do something is a sign of maturity and growth. So, this is 🤔.... It’s July! In Chapter 7 of my book, I talk about some of the same lessons I’m using right now at yet another successful point In my life that require me to use my skills in a very different way to graduate from the lesson... Last month was about relationships, this month is about success and they both coincide with my current growth journey and sometimes struggle. God must have a sense of humor, because I am reminded of how I made it over before as I deal with my new and recurring devils. 🤨😅🤣 Nonetheless, I hope my growth helps you. In fact, it often means the exact opposite. New levels, new devils about sums it up. Success is just the beginning of the new plateau you’ve been placed on. While there, you will have to climb again to your next level of growth. And I know from experience, there will be scrapes and falls along the way. I do know that you never achieve a new height that you aren’t already able to handle. You just have to figure it out. You’ve got all the pieces, you just have to put them together. With the help of the Creator and trusted advisors, you can get to the next level (and begin again). When you add entrepreneurship to this mix, and the uncertainty that comes with believing in yourself and your creation while broke, you sure have yourself some MAJOR GROWTH! 😮 Yesterday, I was scheduled to moderate a panel on the #GenderPayGap. The only reason I committed to and kept this engagement was because it’s #BatonRouge and it was part of Quentin’s @justice_alliance passion project. But with 3 hours sleep and about 12 hours of flying and airports, I wasn’t 💯 percent. (Needed ☕️ and a nap) When I arrived and set up my books, a young lady asked her corporal if she could have a book. 🤔 Girls with corporals? Can I just skip lunch and talk to them? Sure. That would be great! 20 minutes of getting to know a few of them, I knew they were all going to leave with one of those books in my bag. After signing 34 books with personal messages, they started reading right then! They served the rest of the day not letting the books out of their sights. #OperationGrowth was tucked into their pants pockets; t-shirts were stuffed in them as well. They began to write their goals in the back and came back to tell me what they wrote. They shared their personal stories of disobedience and trauma. One young lady, said she was calling her mother tomorrow to tell her she was right. She now knew mistakes could be overcome and she was going to be alright. I didn’t fly across country to moderate a panel, I flew across country to deliver a little love to 34 volunteers working hard to finish high school and overcome the life hand they had been dealt. As I’m ✍️ this, I’m really just realizing the impact of a Saturday afternoon in Baton Rouge, LA. As I flew away with another random first class upgrade, I looked out the window thankful for Big Momma, Mommee, Mother Dear, and Momma. Looking down at the Baton Rouge soil that grudgingly gave me an opportunity to be great through them, who would have thought today would have been possible.
