I have this head cannon that Vitas’ characters from Blessed Guru, 7th Element, Opera 1, and Opera 2 are all the same person. They all wear costumes with super high collars. Coincidence? I think not. Maybe it's to protect/hide his gills.

He arrives on Earth as an enigmatic and mischievous alien who uses his strange powers and charismatic voice to mess with people and win them over. In this manner, he achieves godlike celebrity and spends his time engaging in shallow amusement, dispensing nonsensical bits of “wisdom” to satisfy his mindless followers.

He slowly becomes dissatisfied with this lifestyle and attempts to find happiness and fulfillment through spiritual discipline. He moves to Thailand and becomes a monk. Due to his charisma and powers, he quickly gains a cult-like following there too.

Because it is too easy to simply impress his fellow monks and loyal followers with showy displays of telepathy and charisma, he becomes disillusioned with this path as well. Everyone is simply hypnotized and they don’t know or care about who he really is.
