What Went Well/Didn’t Go Well (Open Video)
As always I will reflect on my projects with a break down of what I feel towards the project and the results and what I would do differently if I had another chance of doing the same project.
Music Selection: I am very happy with the song I chosen for the advert as it certainly fits the criteria of funky and inoffensive. Also with how the chorus is structured it made it very easy to break down the video into separate shots.
Editing: Cutting the whole thing together went really well because I feel the visuals certainly match the timing of the music which makes the whole video feel really slick.
Creating The Audio Bar Graph: The audio bar graph made of sticky notes is the thing I feel the most pleased about in the video. I feel it shows my ability to find ways of analysing and translating certain things into a visual medium.
Double Checking With Colleagues: When it came to cutting the sound track together I thought I would ask people I know just to make sure the cut was seamless and using I know who would give me an honest answer allowed me to alter the cut until I got it right.
Tape Roll Shot: One of the things that bother me about the tape roll shot is the fact there is a lot of dead space at the top of the image and the fact after the tape roll there is a little bit of dead air where something else could’ve gone in.
Not Doing It All In Stop Motion: By this I mean not everything looks like it was in stop motion as originally planned. I couldn’t find a way of dropping the frames in the full motion segments to give the video a full stop motion aesthetic.
What I Would Do Differently
Collaborate: Although the song really worked with the advert it might of been worth trying to find a musician to collaborate with to really create a song that fits the criteria rather than find one from a smaller unknown artist.
Create A Longer Stop Motion Piece: This is just for me in future, I really enjoyed creating the stop motion segments as it reminded me of stuff I made in secondary school with stop motion animation. Over the summer I might experiment with stop motion animation a bit more.
