So... beginning this year, Texas is now an open carry state. Thousands of people are rejoicing, and I'm very happy that gun laws in Texas are being eliminated. However... just because you can open carry doesn't mean you should. If you choose to open carry, your vigilance level should quadruple. Depending on your holster/carry location it can be very easy for someone to disarm you. And it does happen folks. Does open carry discourage crime? I think it can. Will it discourage ALL crime? No. Could you be singled out as a target if bad guys see you're open carrying? Sure, in some instances. Carrying a firearm should be viewed as a big responsibility. And open carrying should be viewed as A LOT of EXTRA responsibility. Conceal-carrying has a number of advantages over open carry. The element of surprise is an amazing advantage, and it would be harder to have that if you're open-carrying. If you're open-carrying to be cool... you probably aren't mature enough to carry a gun. #opencarry #opencarrytexas #texasopencarry
