I meant to watch a movie tonight like a normal person, but somehow this happened instead.

There was no conceivable excuse for it. Bond had prepared to sign off comms the way he always did— “I’ll see you in London, Q.” —and Q, only half paying attention, closing camera feeds, verifying flight paths, had responded—

(Or, Q gets distracted on comms, and says the unthinkable.)

❤️ -- this was a hard one! I aaaaaaaalmost picked a serious line but in the end I pivoted toward one that was just a lot of fun to write, from open line: “This is ridiculous, you know,” said a voice from behind him. Q startled, dropping the apples he’d been putting in his cart. Bond bent down to help Q pick them up as he continued. “A man shouldn’t have to go undercover as a cabbage to talk to his quartermaster.”

I think I had so much fun with this line because it let me set up a tender moment with a little bit of silliness, maybe? (And also shout out to your comments on the apples bit of this longer passage for inspiring one of my favorite conversations in the comments on Bond being a sociopath, and eventually leading to the wonders of Algarabía!)

🎬 -- ooooh I went back and forth on this one as well! 😁 ultimately I'm going to go with The More Loving One, mostly because I was *incredibly* self-indulgent when I wrote it, and included a lot of my favorite concepts from both canon and fanon: Q pining, a smidgeon of mission fic, MI6 found family (and the gang playing Fuck/Marry/Kill and Celebrity, with varying degrees of success), and, perhaps most importantly for something hypothetically being converted to a visual medium, Q and Bond dancing together in a gay bar. And obviously, Daniel Craig, Ben Whishaw, and the whole crew are invited back for this movie. And all of you are invited to the premiere. I'll be there too as soon as I can find the perfect gender-ambiguous suit to wear.

@silverbrume, thank you so much for this—both for the well wishes for the flights (I survived!) and the kind comment. I’m especially glad it delivered the fluff you needed. I kind of slouched into this fandom in the latter half of the year, because I needed some additional light and happy things in my life, and gosh has it delivered. Hands down, my first favorite thing has been the wonderful community of thoughtful, kind, funny, creative people in it.

And my second favorite thing has been the dawning realization that I can just…write the thing I need? And there it is? Just suddenly in the world?
