Schooner Tavern Open Blues Jam - The first of my three consecutive nights of live music in Minneapolis started with an open Blues jam at Schooner Tavern in Longfellow. About two dozen Blues musicians were at the club. Walking in with their instruments in hand, they sign in on a chart near the stage and then rotate on and off stage as the music continues almost non stop. They are all competent players and along with guitars, drums, bass and singers, there are also keyboards and saxophone players who have to play off the stage because there is not enough room for them to be on stage.  Beer prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is relaxing. This was my second visit to this club, the first being almost a year ago. Knowing I was going to be out late the next two nights, I made this an early night, and stayed from about 8-10:30. For the first two hours, most of the crowd watching the stage was the musicians and there friends and family. Around 10:00, it started to fill up with the late-nighters. Schooner Tavern has been around since 1932 and it is a classic dive bar. You gotta love an old dive bar that still has a phone booth! I will likely return here again before I head out of the Twin Cities.

Might have dropped a chord, but he’s still amazing! and isn’t that what jam sessions are all about? Practise makes perfect, they say.
