Friday morning with Yannie. Quick warm-ups and then some great drilling, breaking down a technique into bite sized pieces. Hereâs the whole thing we put together by the end:
Starting with an opponent in your closed guard, use your right hand to get a cross lapel grip on oppâs right side. Left hand gets a catspaw grip on oppâs right sleeve.
Hip away onto your left side and circle your right leg into a butterfly hook. Then turn your body over and get the second hook in. Flex your feet to have an active grip.Â
Swim your left arm under and grip your palm on oppâs right shoulder. Circle the right arm under for the same grip. Elbows up! Tuck your head in tight to oppâs chest. Youâre in butterfly guard now, mate.
Rock back onto your back and take your opponent with you, they will base on both hands.Â
Kick your left leg through and wrap your foot around oppâs thigh so your heel is on their hip. Pinch your right thigh against oppâs right leg and wrap your left arm around oppâs right ankle. Welcome to single leg x guard, chap.
Push your right foot to oppâs left leg and shoot your flexed foot around their thigh. Bring your left foot to oppâs left hip. And itâs, x guard fella!
Push your right foot to get opp to sept their left leg back as you swim your left arm around their right leg so youâve got your palm on their knee.
Come up onto your right side as you keep the pressure on your right foot. Post your right hand and do a technical standup to get to top position.Â
Then a bunch of tough rolls. Went with a couple of brown belts, a big blue belt, and a white belt. Forced myself not to play closed guard and had limited success without my crutch.Â
