She was still aching in most places, bruises and bandages clear badges of that awful night. That awful night that had apparently occurred over a month ago. It still made her head spin. She still had no idea what was really going on. That sentiment was clearly written across her face as she hunched over a mug of tea. She was an island in the sea of Smooth Moves, for once not working, just staring down into chamomile.
“I can’t keep doing this. I can’t keep acting like the insults and the talking down aren’t getting to me. I’m SICK of this! I just want to scream until the Earth shatters!”
“What I wouldn’t do for a pool right now...”
“I’m getting too old for this shit...”

Thanks to Maria’s help and the adrenaline, Kezia could at least get around mostly on her own. It hurt like hell and was slow-going but it was better than staying crumpled against the wall. At least this way she felt like she could do something. From the third floor to the second and the second back to the main... There was a gaping maw where the floor had been but why wouldn’t that be the case?
Whole body on fire with pain and exhaustion, Kezia peered into the chasm. There was Babylon and Paul and Zack... Others she had seen milling around the party before it turned nightmare. Josh. And they were all trapped... She swallowed thickly, turning to the others that were straggling through the room behind her. What the hell were they going to do? Even if they could get to those in the basement, they were still stuck in this evil hotel, like Rapunzel in her tower.
Like a punch to the gut, it hit Kezia. They might not have miles of hair to work with, but there were still the sheets on the floor above. Her eyes tracked wildly around the floor. Those decadent curtains could definitely hold weight. The tablecloths from the buffet and banquet hall... It was unlikely that Kezia herself could put it all together but there were plenty of others.
“Ropes,” she said suddenly, finding anyone who could listen. “We can tie stuff --the bed sheets, table cloths, those curtains... Just like a kid running away... We have to...gather anything that will work and then tie them really securely... That will work, right? And then they can, like, pile up some chairs or something to get high enough...” Her mind whirled. Maybe it was just a stupid idea but...Well, it was an idea. And they had to try something.
Struggling, she made her way back over to the hole in the floor. “Hey!” she called down to whoever could hear. “We’re going to try to, like, make some ropes, okay? So then you can climb up but you might have to get on top of some furniture or something? Can you do that?”

It was odd, to be at work in the aftermath. Just making smoothies, like all was normal. Looking over her shoulder every few minutes. Were the Horsemen together now? Pestilence and War a team? Is that how it worked? Were the two of them together easier or harder to deal with than the two of them separate? Too many questions and not even approaching near enough answers.Â
At least it was a slow day, so far. She could lose herself in her thoughts entirely without jeopardizing Jairus’s business. Or -- not Jairus’s any longer, not really. As it was so quiet, her head jerked at the sound of the bell, alerting to someone opening the door.
“Sometimes I wish I knew some other place. LA has always been my home, ya know, but... I don’t have anywhere else to go.”
