On April 26th, FireEye Research Labs notified the public of a new IE zero-day exploit being used in “Operation Clandestine Fox.”
If you're still using Windows XP: This might be the kick in the ass to get you off of it. Basically, Microsoft has pushed an update for IE 8 (if you're keeping score, that's basically 4 versions back of current) that merely *includes* XP, because this very attack relies on Windows XP.
If you really, really can't live without XP, at least do yourself a major favour and install a copy of Windows Vista/7/8.1 and use Microsoft Virtual Machine to run XP as a guest. If you're feeling adventurous, try a Linux Distribution that offers long-term support (Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat, Debian etc.) or you can try another that is closer in look and feel to XP like Lubuntu, Mint, OpenSUSE or Zorin-OS. Either way, XP is almost 13 years old... it's time to let this OS have a good rest of the life at the farm.
