Peter Hedegaard ā OP1
Peter Hedegaard was regarded as one of the finest Danish pipe makers of his time ā more of an āinsiderās tipā than a household name. His style was strongly influenced by the classical Danish school, yet it bore his own distinctive signature.
He is often placed in the same category as other Danish masters, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Jess Chonowitsch and Former.
While these pipe makers became very well known internationally, Hedegaard deliberately remained somewhat in the background ā which has actually strengthened his reputation among connoisseurs.
Hedegaard used a system to classify the quality of the wood and workmanship:
FP (Fancy Pipes): More affordable yet still high-quality grades (FP1, FP2, FP3).
OP (Outstanding Pipes): His premium range, which includes the OP1.
As Peter Hedegaard passed away in 2007, his pipes are now traded almost exclusively as āestateā pipes (second-hand pipes from collections). An OP1 in good condition is a sought-after collectorās item.
